Obituary

Virginia (Ginny) Houck, aged 89 of Spring Park, MN transitioned from this life peacefully on March 29, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Frances Coyle of Hopkins, MN; siblings, Hugh, Marion, and Pat; husband of 66 years, David Houck; daughter-in-law, Linda*. Survived by daughters, Susan (Rick Gordon); Barbara (Paul McNerney); sons, Bill (Mary); Tom (Linda*); sister, Irene Olson; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She will be dearly missed by all and forever remembered for her strength, courage, kindness, creativity, quick wit and how she enjoyed a good laugh. Her attitude of gratitude and deep belief in God’s love carried her through all of life’s trials and tribulations. She was a generous giver to others in so many little, meaningful ways and never expected anything in return. Nor was she a complainer. She could take a punch and then carry on in her loving ways. Her family and friends meant more to her than anything in this world.

There will be a private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. A family celebration of Ginny’s life will be announced at a later date.

Memorials preferred to Presbyterian Homes & Services, 4515 Shoreline Drive, Spring Park, MN 55384, Check memo: Ginny Houck memorial. Funds received will directly benefit the Care Center where Ginny was so lovingly nurtured.

When I think about my Grandma, the first thing that comes to mind is her Delight.
Whether she was experiencing it in the world, or creating it for others or herself, her smile & often mischievous giggle lit up the space around her.

There was a lightness to her, an innocence to her as well.
I recall sitting in the sunroom at my parents’ home in Santa Fe with her, probably 15-20 years ago or more. I was showing her that I was learning how to knit.
She took one look at my work & immediately commented that was going to have the boys lining up around the block!
How cute is that?

My Mom recently told my sister & I that lavender was her favorite scent. What a wonderful scent to now be tied to her memory… calming, comforting & in my opinion, Delightful.

We love you SO MUCH Grandma.

Until we meet again… I love you.

Good Morning Everyone,

I have the distinct honor of being one of Virginia Houck's grandchildren. Grandma Houck was one-of-a-kind. She was always so witty, so thoughtful, so in the moment and grateful for everyone and everything in her life. You could not help but feel your troubles lift if you were in her presence. You could not help but to start to see the beauty all around you as you visited with her. She had an ever-present twinkle in her eye, which made you believe in magic. She was magic. She raised 4 amazing children, one of them being my own magical mom, Susan Gordon. I will cherish my memories of my dear Grandma Houck forever. And I am grateful to be a woman from this magical lineage. Love to all who is reading this.

Love Always,
Ann Kendall Gordon
