Obituary for Rita Mary Ellis (Welty)

Ellis, Rita Mary of Spring Park, MN (formerly of Glencoe, MN) died May 31, 2019. She was born May 30, 1921 in Huron, South Dakota to Bill and Gen (McHugh) Welty. Rita grew more food than the family could eat and shared the bounty with friends and neighbors.
Even casual acquaintances knew Rita never heard music she couldn’t dance to. She danced her entire life and was even kicking her legs high like a Radio City Music Hall Rockette in her early 90s. Her favorite dance style was ballroom, which brought many hours of enjoyment.
Rita had an adventuresome spirit and was always raring to go, whether by car, train, ship, or air. She traveled to many states, the Caribbean numerous European countries with Mike, Linda and other family members. Rita traveled at 95 to Washington state her see her granddaughter, Genevieve, graduate from college.
Rita was a very proud employee of 3M in Hutchinson, MN, where she worked as a secretary for almost 25 years. Rita was both a mother and provider for her children ensuring food on the table and a roof over head. She always saved money to take her children to the Minnesota State Fair enjoying the animals, food and shows. Ever the protector, she often reminded her adult children to wear their hats in the winter, helmets while on motorcycles and to call her when they reached their destinations. Rita loved her nieces and nephews and their families like they were her own children. She enjoyed hearing what each person was doing, and often interjected humor into the conversation.
